Undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma, previously called as malignant fibrous histiocytoma usually arises from the extremities with the retroperitoneum being the second most common site. It is an extremely rare neoplasm and only 51 cases were reported till 2002.
Laryngeal undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma is very rare. It showed poor prognosis because of local recurrence and metastasis. Wide resection such as total laryngectomy has been recommended for treatment in previous report. We report a case of glottic undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma in 64-year-old man presenting with rapid growing. The lesion was treated with type III laryngeal surgery followed radiation therapy. His voice is good enough for social communication, there was no evidence of recurrence by regular examination. In this case, micro laryngeal surgery followed radio therapy will be alterative treatment options in selected patients with laryngeal undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma.
