Mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC) is a malignant glandular epithelial neoplasm characterized by mucous, intermediate, and epidermoid cells. Major salivary glands are involved in approximately 54.6% of cases, commonly in the parotid gland. It has been considered the most common malignant epithelial salivary gland tumor of minor salivary glands. Mucoepidermoid carcinoma rarely has calcifications. To the best of our knowledge, 3 previous reports have been published in the literature describing MECs with calcifications. A 45-year-old woman visited out-patient clinic due to right floor-of-mouth cystic mass about two months ago. She got micromarsupialization at out-patient clinic under the first impression of ranula but swelling recurred in one month, so ranula excision and right sublingual gland excision was performed. Later, it was identified as calcified mucoepidermoid carcinoma histologically and patient got adjuvant radiation therapy. An unusual case of a MEC with intracystic calcification is described. The immunohistochemical characteristics of this case were examined, and a review of the relevant literature is provided, because previous studies have been limited in scope.
