¸ñÀû: The objective of this study was to investigate the current awareness and
expected price of personal sound amplification products (PSAPs) and to
analyze influencing factors through a multi-center hospital-based survey
study of outpatients, caregivers and hearing experts. ¹æ¹ý:A multi-center cross-sectional survey study was conducted in two groups
of respondents with two separate surveys: 1) awareness survey on
patients and caregivers who visited ENT outpatient in 5 general
hospitals and 2) opinion survey about the expected price of PSAPs on
hearing specialists. °á°ú:A total of 197 patients and caregivers responded to awareness survey,
and 42 hearing specialists responded to opinion survey. Overall
awareness score from the awareness survey with 18 questions was 3.04
(95% CI, 3.00-3.09). When analyzed in 5 categories, which are
knowledge, needs, cost, expectation, and information categories, cost
and expectation categories showed high score of 3.33 (95% CI, 3.21-
3.44) and 3.33 (95% CI, 3.27-3.40), respectively, and needs category
showed low score of 2.23 (95% CI, 1.97-2.49). Perception of PSAPs
showed significant difference in ¡Ã 60-years-old group (P = 0.003),
and according to subjective hearing loss (P = 0.026). The expected
price of PSAPs of the patients and caregivers was 1,037,563 (95% CI,
902,021-1,173,216) Korean won (KRW) per one ear. Mean expected price
of PSAPs of the hearing specialists was 323,634 (95% CI, 264,640-
382,517) KRW per one ear. °á·Ð:The perception rate of PSAPs was very low, and there was a discrepancy
in the expected price of PSAPs by the patients and caregivers and the
hearing experts. Healthcare providers should make effort to improve
perception of PSAPs.
