Accurate diagnosis is paramount in the treatment of all diseases.
Therefore, there are objective tests for a definite diagnosis or
verifying severity of various rhinologic diseases such as
rhinosinusitis, olfactory disorder, and obstructive sleep apnea.
However, we also should consider that these tests be conducted with
cost-effective aspects, as well as the inconvenience of patients or
carers through unnecessary testing.
Therefore, a screening-purpose questionnaire to identify the necessary
tests in a timely manner may be helpful. In addition, evaluation through
appropriate questionnaires is very effective and important for the
evaluation of progress observation or symptom improvement during the
treatment of the disease, or for large-scale epidemiological research.
Even though it may be thought that visual analogue scale (VAS) may be
sufficient for each symptom measure, but in terms of assessing the
quality of life of patients resulting from illness, using appropriate
questionnaires is necessary for patient symptom improvement or
satisfaction.
Various questionnaires are used for each diseases, and each has its own
strengths and weaknesses. Furthermore, since these questionnaires are
influenced by different languages or cultures, it is thought that
continuous efforts are needed to develop appropriate questionnaires for
each situation. Therefore, during this time, we will look at the
questionnaires used in various rhinologic diseases and see what pros and
cons there are. |
